Evelyn Oliver Knight

Evelyn combines her lifelong passions of writing, photography, and sewing to create works of art with fabrics, threads, buttons, and baubles. Her art quilts tell a story, document a moment, express emotion, invite open dialogue for difficult topics, or hold a fond memory. As a Fiber Artist, she creates images and messages that connect with the hearts and minds of viewers.
After learning to sew clothing in her youth, she ventured into quilting upon the encouragement of renowned Fiber Artist Ed Johnetta Miller. For her first quilt, she followed instructions in a book and quilted the traditional pattern by hand. She entered her first art exhibition in 2015. Since then, her art quilts have been displayed in shows throughout Connecticut and around the country including in Atlanta, GA; Boston, MA; Charleston, North Charleston and Pacolet, SC.; Cincinnati and Wilberforce, OH; and Minneapolis, MN. In addition to her quilts appearing in several catalogs, two of her quilts have been published in Quilting Arts Magazine. Evelyn favors making applique quilts and looks forward to completing personal quilt ideas and future artistic challenges that will increase her skills and expand her body of work. She is also contemplating ways to reproduce her art for sale.
Evelyn enjoys being part of the expansive community of Fiber Artists who share their knowledge and elevate art quilts to museum-quality status. She is honored to continue the craft of her African ancestors. Evelyn is a member of the Connecticut chapter of SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates). She is also a Friend of the Women of Color Quilters Network (WCQN).
Evelyn retired as a Communication Consultant from the State of Connecticut after 35 years of service. She received her BA from Wilberforce University (OH) and her MA from Fairfield University (CT).
